Wait, the baby book never covered that!

How many times does a mom think this every day?  After the first 3 times this phrase muddled its way into my head, I did the unthinkable.  I put away the baby books for good.  I have not read a single "parenting" book since that time.  If I need some information, online is my source.  Those books serve one purpose:  to scare the daylights out of new parents.

That being said there are three books I may love and have a crush on.  The first two are Jenny McCarthy's Belly Laughs and Baby Laughs because, hello?  They're funny.  The other is Good Night, Sleep Tight:  The Sleep Lady's Gentle Guide to Helping Your Child go to Sleep, Stay Asleep, and Wake Up Happy by Kim West.  This book teaches sleep training and it may sound like a bunch of hooey, but after teaching self soothing, we were hooked!

But I digress.

On Sunday, Dex was walking in our entry way when he tripped.  He doesn't trip often, but this time he tripped.  And fell.  Into the base of the newel post.  Have you ever seen a bump turn purple within 3 seconds?  I have.  I'm not kidding.  I thought he broke something.  He was literally shaking it hurt so bad.  I'm holding him, trying to put a boo boo pack on his head, he's clutching onto me, screaming, trying to push the ice away.

How does it look 5 days later?  Ugly.  But better.  He's back to his normal self.  Me?  I want to foam wrap our house.  But I won't.  He'd still find a way to get hurt.

Those baby books?  Yeah, they don't prepare you for things like this.  You know....kids being kids.

Celebrate good times! Come on!

I have to do a little bit of a happy dance........

Last year, we had the worst week ever after "spring ahead."  It took a week before our 11 month old (omg) who previously had slept through the night since 7 weeks (yes, I totally know we're in for it with the next child) was able to sleep without crying for an HOUR.  Not kidding!

This year, we were dreading daylight savings weekend.  Dreading.  Fall back?  He's a champ.  Spring ahead?  Bad...bad...bad.

He surprised us by having no problems at all.  That being said, he has been miserable with a head cold for the past 3 days.  Maybe that's why it was so easy.  He was too sick and tired to bother being disturbed by the time change.

Whatever, kid, just do the same thing next year!

Follow ups are fun!

I only feel it fair to share the result of our Comcast visit the other day.

I've learned that if you really want service, blog about it or tweet about it, and suddenly you have customer care all over the place!

Our wonderful tech came out to visit, about 15 minutes into the 3 hour window they gave us for the appointment.  We have actually had this tech before.  He was the GENIUS who solved our original problems.  He was kind, an efficient worker, and understanding of my little guy in the house.  Dexter loves when people come to visit, but he is very wary and clingy when people come over who he doesn't know.  This gentleman was just that...used a gentle voice around my 1 year old, who likes to explore when someone is working in the house.

He remembered us, remembered our past problems, remembered my son.  it was comforting to have a familiar face, who previously helped us, back in our home.  He had or issue resolved in under 20 minutes and left our house better than when he came.

I can honestly say, if this tech was the only person through Comcast we ever had to deal with, we would never have another issue again.  I hope his company realizes what an important part of the team he really is and uses his example to train other employees.

**In respect of this worker's privacy, I am not publishing his name.  We have called to express our happiness with his work.**

They strike again!

Months ago, I wrote about the trouble we had with Comcast....they're back.

We just bought a new tv for our living room.  Previously, having lived in a townhouse, we had our bedroom tv and the tv we had in our living room.  It was a 36 in. tv.  And now it lives in the playroom.  We had been wanting to upgrade to something better, but it didn't make sense in the townhouse.

After much research, we finally bought a 55" LED tv.  We loooove it.  It rocks.  So Rob calls Comcast so we can get an HD box for the living room tv.  No problem, there's an office 5 minutes from where he works, so they said he can pick it up and give them a call once it's hooked up.  Rob gets home and gets all hooked up...nothing.  After calling and waiting patiently for his turn (I will say this, from our experiences, the one place where Comcast excels is with their non-manager customer service reps.  Seriously.  They rock)  He does everything they tell him to do and finally discover that the cable that runs into our living room isn't hooked up to anything.  We are then informed that they unhooked that cable when they were installing our cable to our family room (remember that debacle?) they disconnected it because they thought that's what we wanted.  A wire sticking through our floor that does nothing.  This is coming from who knows, notes on our account?  Seriously?  Now we get to incur a service charge for someone to come to our house and fix what was caused BY THEM.  I think Comcast purposely does ridiculous things so they can charge you.  Nuts.

As if that's not enough?  Our internet?  Awful tonight.  I mean literally goes out every 5 minutes.  This post?  Taking forever.

I sincerely apologize to any Comcast employees who are annoyed by my post.  In our defense, we had Armstrong cable the first 4 years we were married.  We had one problem with service cutting out, and they immediately credited our account and gave us some random extra channels for like 3 months for free.  When we call Comcast about issues, it's like, oh okay, well we'll charge you and send someone out.

Hopefully tomorrow, CC will exceed my expectations!

Hopefully...

Um, it's March...

Seriously, if there was one word to describe my blog upkeep in February it would have to be SUCK.  Between snow and sickness, we have been entirely too busy!

Dexter's birthday is coming up quickly...to quickly for me.  I have no clue what happened to that tiny little baby who relied on me for everything.  Now he gets along just fine, often times pushing my helping hands away.  yikes.  Um, hello, you're not quite 2 yet.  I think I can help a little right?

So yes indeed we are planning away for his second birthday party, that may not go off without tears (from me, not him), but what can you do?  It goes by too quickly, but at the same time each stage we encounter is so much fun!  He changes so much every day.

Dexter has known all of his letters and numbers for months.  No, no joke.  We play with letters in the tubby and with his letter mat constantly.  You can ask him to point out any letter/number and he's dead on.  Now he stunned us by being able to identify them verbally as well.  We'll be in the store and he'll point to and say E if he sees the letter.  The little stinker will point to an M in a magazine "Em!" and then turn the magazine upside down, point to it and say "ow oo!"  It kills me!

We've begun to see some hints of "2" as he's becoming more independent and some of his mother's stuborness is creeping in.  All in all, it hasn't been too bad yet.  He still maintains that certain amount of guilt when he knows he's done wrong.  Then the head goes down, the lip pops out, the tears start to flow, and he just wants a hug to make it all better.  I would definitely be okay with the guilt factor staying.

As crazy as it is that March is here, it also means we are thismuchcloser to summer break.  I honestly can't wait.  I love spending days with the little guy and having that extended time is just more than I can ask for.  This will be our 3rd summer home together, and despite the warnings from friends, no, I do not get sick of being home with my son.  Not at all.  Maybe it's because I know that I only really get that short amount of time, but I love being home with him every day.  We play and go outside, it's so much fun!  My small amount of jealousy over those that are home with their kids all the time melts away during that time, because it's like, hey ME TOO!  The mommy guilt feeling goes into hibernation...okay I need to stop thinking about it because of course the M.G. is here right now, and we certainly don't need to build that up anymore!

Anyway that's been us recently.  We've been chilling as a family, praying for warmer weather, and holding on til summer.
