You don't have to agree. I'm just saddened.

Today I heard something that affected me greatly.  I want to know when marriage became a game?  When did a spouse become disposable?  When did being unfaithful become the norm?

I am so lucky that my husband is my best friend.  We have a wonderful marriage and a beautiful son.  I would never give these things up.

Why do people cheat on their spouses just because they think something better is out there?  Why do they cheat and then blame their spouses for forcing them to cheat?  Why get married if you only mean, let's stay together until I get bored?

I know things happen and people get divoced.  I also think it's sad that there are so many people I am aquainted with that have given up.

I wish I could make a paper hat like Paris.

Seriously, how cool is she?  Anyone want to take some type of creative class with me?  Maybe jewelry making?  I hear they're cool!

6 Weird Things About Me

1.  I love the smell of chlorine.  I love swimming in a freshly chlorinated pool.  I guess it's reassuring to know it's been cleaned and doesn't just look clean.  I love an INDOOR freshly chlorinated pool even more.  As I sit here and type this, I wish I could smell a freshly chlorinated pool.

2.  I love office supplies.  I love them to the point of addiction.  It is not safe to let me enter Staples.  If I could, I would buy every neat office supply and have the largest home office in the world.  I'd quit my job and open up my own business of organizing offices.  Only offices.  I know, I have issues.

3.  I don't like my food to touch.  Ever.  Ever.  Seriously.  I cannot handle my food being mixed together.  Only like two things in the world will I mix.  I don't even mix my sesame chicken and my rice when we get Chinese food.  I don't like tastes combined.  I mean, pasta and its sauce, that's fine, but like pasta with it's sauce and my green beans touching it, that's it.  Barf.

4.  Continuing with my weird food things?  I eat things in a specific order.  I am not the kind of person that eats some of this, then some of that, then back to this.  No way.  If I make a roast, mashed potatoes, and a vegetable.  I eat the meat until I don't want anymore of it or finish my serving.  Then the potatoes.  Then the vegetable.  In that order.  If I get a hamburger and fries at a restaurant, it's the fries then the hamburger.  In that order.  It makes for an interesting situation when the server keeps coming to your table to see if your hamburger is done properly.  I think the Longhorn staff facepalm when they see us coming.

5.  I don't seem to get into popular tv shows until after they are either canceled or have been out for like 5 years.  Or I'll catch them in the last season.  I simply don't have the time to commit to watching a tv show every week.  I don't know why?  It always seems like the best shows are on too late for my tired self.  DVRing is always an option, but then I'd have to find the time to actually watch the shows.......so usually I get clued in way after they're on, and catch the reruns that are on at a more manageable time for me!

6.  My husband and I have codes for everything.  Seriously.  I don't think anybody could ever realize what we're talking about in person, on facebook, in email.  At first, it was silly.  Now it's sly.  I find it quite entertaining.  I love being able to have the freedom to speak my mind about things only he and I will understand without anyone else having a clue what's going on.  We are the hugest geeks in the world and I love it!

Good thing he's cute!

Seriously, I love this child to death.  He's been a little bit of a stinker lately.  It's not completely his fault.  He has been working on some teeth for ohh.....about 2 million years now.  Which is actually pretty amazing considering he won't be 1 until April 2.

Anyway, the other day he was SCREAMING like a crazy man in pain.  I was feeling all sorry for him.  So what does he start doing?  Throwing his sippy cup.  I, of course, do the absolutely wrong thing the first time he throws it...instinctively laugh like crazy.  I have no clue why it made me laugh so hard.  It did.  What does he do?  He laughs like a hyena.  It was adorable.  The problem now?  He thinks it's funny to throw his sippy cup.  He did it at the sitter yesterday.  I was ashamed to admit it was all my fault  Truthfully....I didn't.  Oops!

Anyway, all it takes to make us smile?  His cute little face!

And he will be 1 next Friday.  Hold me.

What a day....

Seriously, it's been a day.  Okay, it's been a month!

Last week, I had no problems with our snow days.  We had that lovely Kaiser Snowse storm.  I was more than happy to hole up in the house with my husband and Dex.  This week?  I'm over it!

A little background...

We have a 2 day a week sitter. All other days, Dex is with grandparents.  She is 2 minutes from the school I teach at.  When we finally buy a house, she'll be 2 minutes from me!  Right now, it's about a half an hour on a snow free day.  If my school gets a 2 hr. delay on a day he's with his sitter,  I still have to go pretty  much on time for two reasons:  1.  I need extra time in bad weather 2. Dex eats at 8.  I have to be at school by 9.  If I leave for delay time, he will scream because it's breakfast time.  In a nutshell, I leave like a normal day so my son's breakfast isn't interrupted.

Let me set today's scene for you....

Today, I had a 2 hr. delay and it was a sitter day.  It looked kind of crappy out, so I waited an extra half an hour before leaving, just in case my school canceled.  They didn't.  I left.  It took me an hour and 20 min. to get to my sitter.  As I was pulling in her driveway, school canceled.  I kid you not.  HEADDESK.  Luckily, she is a wonderful woman, we came in, she fed Dex, and we left.  He proceeded to scream most of the way home because he was angry about being back in his car seat.  Hey, he's 10 months old, I don't blame him!  We get home and I get a call from a "person" who dumped a huge thing for me to organize, FOR MONDAY.  FACEPALM.

Finally, my son decided two days ago, that he just isn't going to nap anymore.  What's that you say?  Oh he plays and is happy instead?  No, he's EXHAUSTED and  is a crab-man-do during what is supposed to be naptime.  Today, he was sooo tired.  Thought for sure.  He was thisclose to falling asleep and then the home phone rang (of course).  Well, that was the end of it.

Sigh.

Anyone feel like bringing me some alcohol?  Chocolate?  Pizza?  A few million dollars?

I need a Mommy vacation with some other Mommies.

Struggles

I am struggling.  I have no problem admitting that.  I loooooved having Christmas break.  I know some people get snarky about teachers and their breaks, and that's okay, but I really needed it!  Since school started back (Yesterday!!) I feel like I didn't even have a break.  I'm struggling.

Everyday, I get up at 4:30 am.  Everyday.  I get up, shower, get ready for school.  I pack Dexter and me for the day.  I warm up my car (unearth it from snow).  I try and eat breakfast or I take it with me to work.  I take Dexter to whoever his sitter is that day (family or our sitter we've hired).  Then I get to work around 7, work my rearend off until 8.  I run to the restroom, go get my kids, and teach all day long.  Then, I work as long as I need to with my teaching partner and I go pick Dexter up.  I drive home.  I play with the baby, make dinner, and then do school work.  At 8, Dexter gets a bath, has a bottle and goes to bed.  I try and get to bed by 10.  TRY.  Rob helps a lot in the morning.  In the evening, he gets home around 6 and helps then.  I am exhausted.  On Friday nights, I do laundry until late, late evening.  On Saturday, I attempt to clean.  On Sunday we grocery shop for the week.  All extra time on the weekend is family time, or go to wherever time.  I am EXHAUSTED.

I want to be able to sleep until 5:30!  I'm hoping if we ever find a house I can do that!  But, right now, I'm struggling.

I want my job to make more sense.  I can't say more than that right now.  That makes me struggle.

I want to spend more time with my baby before he is 18 and I have no clue where it all went.  I struggle with that.

I want to cook healthy meals for my family every night.  I want to cook meals that are interesting and delicious.  At 6:30, sometimes a simple hamburger  is easiest.  I struggle with that.

I rely a lot on prayer right now.  I think that's the only thing that gets me through some of these days.  I don't know what else to do.  I never intended to write an entry with complaints and that's not how I mean it.  I'm in need of prayer and help.  My body simply cannot handle the lack of sleep and the workload anymore.  I can't say anymore about that at the moment.  Maybe someday, and then it will make more sense.

I struggle.  I am a wife and a mother and a teacher.  And I struggle.

Help, Not Compete

When I was pregnant, I found the most valuable resource in the world: recently pregnant girlfriends I admire. This may seem like common sense right now, but when you're pregnant, you get advice from every person you meet, whether they have children or not. It can be very annoying. Sometimes, you're tempted to do the opposite of what they say (even if it sounds reasonable) just because you tired of all the advice. I found that mom's I admire (my own, my sister in law, my friends, moms I may not know well, but have enjoyed reading their blogs because of their common sense child rearing philosophy) are the people I listened to the most.

I can remember being out and about while hugely pregnant one day and watching a situation where one mom wouldn't "share" her knowledge with another who asked. I tried to pretend I wasn't eavesdropping (but I totally was and it was probably obvious) but after the mom asking for advice left, the knowledgeable mom looked at her friend and in a superior sounding voice said, "Like I'm going to give away my best tricks of the trade." No, I'm not kidding. I was astonished! I mean, yeah, we all want our kids to be the best, but really, do you think your child has any less of a chance of being CEO if you tell your friend your trick to changing a diaper fast? I think that what we should be striving for as a parenting community is to help raise our kids to be productive members of society who can do for themselves, so that our world becomes a better place! Seriously, I don't want Dexter relying on people his whole life. If he wants to build a house for his family to live in, he needs to work hard for that, not look for a handout from someone! His parents work hard to give him everything he has. Okay, off the soap box!

At any rate, I found myself in a position last night where my newly pregnant friend was having a time with something. I passed on a small bit of advice given to me that helped me a lot! I woke up this morning to find that she had great success with the information I passed on and was grateful! I felt good that I could help someone as someone helped me. So, I guess this ramble has a point. We should be working together, not against each other. Oh yeah, and pregnant moms, whether it's your first or 20th, your best resource are moms who were recently where you are now! Use them! And if any of them are mean to you, let a little SBD slip and shrug, because, hey, you're pregnant!
